The Senior Choir
Those who sing pray twice!
Do you love to sing? Would you like to become part of a prayerful, talented, dedicated and fun-loving group of friends who share their faith through music? The St. Agnes Senior Choir may be the perfect Ministry for you to join. New members are always welcome!
The Senior Choir is celebrating its 50th year of musical service to St. Agnes Parish! To provide some history, the Choir was founded in 1965 under the direction of Ernie Bukovy at the request of Fr. John Davis pastor. The choir has been singing continuously since that time at the family mass now held at 11:00 a.m. Marcia Vaillant, the current Director, has been directing since 1983 with only a couple of short breaks during that time. She has grown in her wisdom and experience and shares all she learns with the choir - she challenges them to always do their best. Karl Schulzki also directs the choir, sings, plays guitar, and looks after the sound system.
The choir has had several accompanists over the years current accompianist, Jo-Anne Borgo, has been with choir for 15 years. Joanne is a talented pianist and flutist. Rona Doyle, a soprano with the choir, is also available as accompanist.
Several computer operators manage the computer system at every mass; Maggie Bragnalo and Mimma Nicoletti currently handle this role extremely well.
The choir, in co-operation with the other music ministers, has presented many concerts over the years raising funds in support of the Music Ministry. They have also been involved in sacred dance events, musicals, and prayer services just to mention a few ways the choir supports the Parish community and the less fortunate. Funds raised are often designated to special causes; the tsunami disaster fund is one example. The choir has also hosted musical workshops and concerts with renowned composers including Tom Kendzia, Rory Cooney and David Haas.
The Senior Choir rehearses every Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday mornings before the 11:00 a.m. mass, September through to May. If you are interested in becoming a choir member, please talk to either Karl Schultzki or Marcie Vaillant after any 11:00 a.m. mass or contact the Parish Office at 475-7489. If you've considered joining but would like to try it out first, you are welcome to take part in a practice to see if it's for you. New members are welcome to join the choir at any time.
