The Senior Choir
Do you love to sing? Would you like to become part of a prayerful, dedicated and fun-loving group of people from all walks of life who share their faith through music? The St. Agnes Senior choir may be the perfect ministry for you to join.
The choir was formed in 1967 when St. Agnes was served by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. In 2017, a 50th anniversary celebratory year of concerts and special liturgies were enjoyed by the parish and the entire Diocese of Thunder Bay. Several original members continue to sing in the choir!
The ability to read music is not a prerequisite to join the choir. Regular, consistent attendance, an open mind and team spirit are all that is required. Books and music are provided. The singers wear gowns for part of the year.
New members are strongly encouraged to sing regularly at St. Agnes liturgies, for Christmas Season liturgies, and for Holy Week liturgies whenever possible. On rare occasions, the choir is asked to sing at the Saturday, 5pm Mass. The choir loves to present fundraising concerts, host workshops and concerts with out-of-town clinicians/composers, and to partner with other community groups in a variety of performance settings.
The Senior Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9pm from September to the end of May. The best times to consider joining the group are September and January. An audition is not necessary, but a short trial period is essential to confirm that you and your voice are a good "fit" for the group. If you are interested in singing with the Senior Choir, you can hear them at the regular Sunday 11am Mass or call the parish office at 475-7489 for more information.
