St. Vincent de Paul Ministry

The volunteers of the St. Vincent de Paul Society are definitely the “givers” of our community who joyfully assist in the mission of serving less fortunate individuals and families around us with love, respect, and justice.  These volunteers are part of a truly rewarding Ministry that directly impacts the lives of others.

If you live on the south side of the City and are in need of food...

... the Society of St. Vincent de Paul - St. Agnes Conference

distributes food hampers from St. Agnes Church lobby Friday mornings between 9am and 10:30am

You will need to bring proof of address and government issued picture identification for all members of your household, as well as heavy bags to carry food home.  Those requiring assistance are eligible to receive one hamper of food every two months.

Each month volunteers from St. Agnes Church prepare and distribute approximately 100 food hampers to those in need.  Some of the donations of food come from parishioners of St. Agnes and other churches and from the Regional Food Distribution Associaton (RFDA).  At St. Agnes Church, Hamper Sundays are held on the third Sunday of each month to encourage food donations but much appreciated donations can also be dropped off at any time into the wooden food chest in the St. Agnes Church lobby located beneath the bulletin board and video screen.  Supplies that are regularly required include tuna, salmon, peanut butter, pasta, pasta sauce, and soups.

Some of the hamper supplies are purchased using monetary donations received from the parish, other churches and from Church and community groups.  Monetary donations are greatly appreciated and enable the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to purchase essential food items that have not been donated.  Monetary donations can be placed in the collection basket in an envelope marked "St. Vincent de Paul" or can be made via pre-authorized withdrawals from a bank account.

Volunteers are scheduled in advance to assist with Hamper distribution on Friday mornings and/or to assist with making Hampers at times during the week that are convenient for the Volunteers.  If you are interested in joining this vital Ministry, please leave a message for Mandy at the Church office (475-7489).

Kenyan Outreach Mission

At the beginning of 2012, St. Agnes' Church formed the Kenyan Outreach Mission.   This Mission involved the construction of a girls secondary school called St. Mary Goretti Shikoti Girls School in the Western Province of Kenya, Africa.

Building this school helps the orphaned children of Kakamega to stay in school and also gives young Kenyan girls a better and brighter future.

Nine people travelled to Kenya in June of 2013 to share each other’s faith, help in the classrooms, and assist in building a new dormitory for the Form One (grade nine) girls.  A picture of architectural plans for the new building as well as two maps of Kenya are shown at the bottom of this article.

If you would like to make a donation to this Mission, please contact the Parish Office or place your donation in the collection basket during Mass in an envelope marked "Kenyan Mission".
